Building Regulations Approved Document E 2003 Resistance to the Passage of Sound

Sound insulation / Pre-Completion Testing are one of the core areas of our business here at Scenic Acoustic & Vibration.

Our test engineers carry all the latest acoustic test equipment and all of our acoustic testing/sound testing is completed to a strict quality controlled standard. All test equipment is calibrated at UKAS Accredited Test Laboratories, and all laboratory calibration certificates will be valid at the time of testing. All measurement equipment is precision, Class 1 rated, and we use state of the art professional analysis software.

One of our many specialized areas is Pre-completion testing for 'new build' and 'material change of use' developments. We can offer consultation services from design through to build, with our sole intention of ensuring noise levels are reduced to a level that meet the requirements of the Approved Document E to the Building Regulations (2000), at the lowest possible cost to the developer.

Scenic Acoustic is also able to supply some common sound control products directly to the client. We search the market for the best product to meet your requirements, at the best possible end user cost. Scenic Acoustic can also arrange for on site testing of sample materials, which will give the best indication of the final 'single figure sound level difference' for that construction. This can be useful for conversion work involving 'material change of use'.
Our reports are clear and detailed and are written in a manner that meets the desired format stipulated by the Secretary of State, and satisfy the requirements of the Local Authority Building Control.

Due to our specialised wide range of experience in acoustics and vibration analysis and control our advice is invaluable when it comes to the acoustic design of your development, whether that is a single story house or a multi-plex cinema, with adjoining noise sensitive properties such as a 5 star hotel. Our knowledge will enable reliable advice with regards to which sound proof systems and products perform best in each application, and their advantages and disadvantages of each system.

What happens if the test fails?

Most of the sound insulation tests do pass. However if a test fails, Scenic Acoustic and Vibration will endeavour to identify the weakness and provide guidance on how to improve the sound insulation of the construction. Once mitigation works are completed the failed test element will have to be retested.

As standard with all our reports we supply advice on basic remedial acoustic works, as required after failed tests. Conditions apply to the advice given and time spent dealing with failed tests.

All Scenic Acoustic Engineers are Certified to IOA & BINDT Standards
